Student that have graphic design as their main area of concentration must participate studio reviews at the end of each semester. This is a chance for students to interact with the design faculty in an informal critique setting and improve future design work.
The Department of Art and Art History has a wonderful guest lecture series that includes visiting designers. This gives students a chance to meet nationally and internationally recognized graphic designers.
The graphic design program in the Department of Art and Art History has enjoyed a long and successful history. Through the years the design department has produced several successful designers who are working and teaching both regionally and nationally. Currently, the design program has a flux of talented students and faculty alike. Because of this, the department has been able to increase course offering and gain exposure on campus, as well as nationally through design competitions. In order to meet the needs of the changing landscape of design the department provides breadth over depth. Our current course offerings focus on typography, book and publication design, corporate identity, interactive media and motion graphics, as well as a strong foundations program. Students learn through studio based environments that explore both form and content through hands-on experience and digital applications. Recently, the department has acquired two letterpresses, created two new computer labs and is in the process of setting up equipment for audio and video production.
