APPAREL & TEXTILE DESIGN, BA & BFA

The Apparel and Textile Design program emphasizes creativity and experimentation that mingles design with art. Students combine fine art, couture and technical design to create original garments, which reflect an understanding of global issues such as sustainability and cultural dress.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts provides professional preparation in Apparel and Textile Design. The core of the program emphasizes aesthetics and creativity; two- and three-dimensional Apparel and Textile Design skills; design technologies; the historical and cultural aspects of dress and textiles; sustainable design; and the role of Apparel and Textiles in a global context. Senior BFA students design and present a final signature collection and professional portfolio that reflects the development of a design philosophy and individual career goals.

The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Apparel and Textiles provides students with a foundation in art; fundamental skills in Apparel and Textile Design; design technologies; sustainable design; Art History and Visual Culture; the historical and cultural aspects of dress and textiles; and the role of Apparel and Textiles in a global context. Two years proficiency in a foreign language is required.

All courses and ATD studios are located in the Urban Planning Landscape Architecture building on the corner of Red Cedar and Wilson.
