Our MFA program seeks to expand our empathic understanding, cultivate the voices of underserved populations and ideas, and mitigate and critique damage done to ecologies, marginalized cultures, and the environment brought about by several centuries of colonialist pursuits.

Born with no hands and missing her big toe along with the supporting bones on each foot, Kathryn Bailey, a 24-year-old Studio Art graduating senior hasn’t allowed her quadrilateral limb deficiency to keep her from living a “normal” life and now is about to graduate with a degree in Studio Art and a concentration in Painting and Graphic Design.

Faculty and Students Engage in Cross-Cultural Teaching and Learning Through COIL Program
Four College of Arts & Letters faculty members are part of the third cohort of the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Faculty Fellows Program-Africa, pairing them with faculty from an African country with the goal of engaging students in meaningful global learning experiences. An online cross-cultural teaching and learning method, the COIL program links university courses, faculty, and students in different countries, providing both students and faculty with a collaborative intercultural experience. Graphic Design Students and College Marketing Team Win Top ADDY Awards
Four students in Michigan State University’s Graphic Design program received American Advertising (ADDY) Awards at this year’s American Advertising Federation (AAF) Lansing Chapter ceremony, with two of those students earning a Gold ADDY, the highest award an entry can receive within a category, and one taking home the prestigious Judge’s Choice Award.

2026 MFA Exhibition Showcases the Work on Five Artist-Scholars
The annual Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Exhibition returns to the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University March 14-May 17, 2026, and will feature the work of five MFA candidates — Yeroham Ashagre, Hailey Becker, Niloufar Fallahfar, Vadu Rodrigues, and Alex Vlasov — all of whom are graduating this spring.
